Smooth Harmony

Part two of our US trip, road trip from LA to Las Vegas.  Before heading out on the road from Pasadena we wanted to fill our tummies with iHop! However Marie Callender's came up along the road and before we knew it we were seated in a diner with a menu filled with breakfast and signature pies.  It started off well with their complimentary pumpkin loaf with whipped butter which was warm with spices and cinnamon but things kind of went downhill after that with a lot empty calories.  Should have stayed with iHop..

I miss ihop :(

So many goodies at the Encore. Look don't touch - anything removed over 60 seconds gets billed automatically.

Boyz II Men at The Mirage. Wow, after 20 years they still got it and by far the most amazing acappella group I have ever heard live. <3

At the Terrace Pointe Cafe for breakfast. J had the benedicte trio: traditional with Canadian bacon, pork belly with on a pepper jack biscuit and Maine lobster on bacon waffle while I had the crispiest belgium waffle. :D

The sun setting and temperatures dropping. The night is oh so young..

Check out the curvaceous lady in the background :)  This restaurant is named after the Colombian artist Fernando Botero.

Caramel apple cinnamon bread pudding with ice cream. My gosh I'd come back to Botero just to sample their desserts.. Wish I saved room to try their smores brioche doughnuts filled with marshmallow and rolled with graham crackers. Check them out here..*drools.

The stars that collide and dance.

At the Eiffel Tower restaurant for NYE.  We witnessed two engagements happen right beside our table. One started off really happy with a group of friends dancing and then the guy kneeled down on one knee proposed towards the end of their meal.  The girl hesitated and the guys eyes showed concern. It wasn't a good sign :S An hour later, at a smaller table by the window another guy proposed and the reaction from the couple was so sweet and we (girls) totally shrieked with giddiness. The girl's reaction was pure joy and that's the kind of reaction we were hoping to see! Yayy :D

Tender beef wellington wrapped with puff pastry, perfect portions but charging a leg and an arm..

The entire strip filled with people.

Ending the night by hopping on a party bus back to our hotel. hehe Yes can you imagine us in a Vegas VIP bus with neon flashing lights and dance pole in the middle? Priceless..

Anyways we all had a really fun and memorable trip.. We're could not have asked for anything but just good laughs and smiles together.  Cheers to an amazing twenty thirteen and looking forward to another fresh start.

The world is meant for you

H a p p y  N e w  Y e a r !  Hope everyone had a great christmas and 2013. :)

The biggest milestone for us this past year was starting our lives together as a newlywed, molding our lives together, filling empty picture frames of all sizes and shapes into sweet memories and just spending quality time together doing the things we like.  That warm feeling you get when you come home and just share all the goods and bads because he'll always be there to listen.  As we celebrated our one year anniversary over Christmas, not much has changed and yet yes, you could say a lot of things have changed. We've done a lot of things this year and looking back it feels even more amazing knowing that you've accomplished something new. Tactical shooting and ballet has been big for me and I guess I can throw one more in there and say that I've finally tried skiing! I've done snowboarding since grade ten during the SC ski trip but I've never quite mastered it especially on the steeper slopes.  However I can now say that skiing feels a lot more comfortable for me. I hope that with more experience it'll be as smooth as running.  So as I sit here pondering about what things I want to work towards in 2014, it'll definitely revolve around health/exercise, working hard and also setting time aside to stay balanced for not only J but myself and family.  And of course, spending 2 days a week doing my beloved ballet.

Here's a bubbly toast to the end of the year! Life goes by with a blur. It's really so important to plan and think things through otherwise before you know it, it's another year.  What are you thankful for or want to celebrate?  It's been a good year and not to say that there's no frustrating moments but overall a good learning curve.  This post is dedicated to sharing a small handful of photos from our recent trip to the US.

Smiling & waiting patiently for our domestic flight from Los Angeles to Aspen watching Svetlana youtube clips on my mini iPad. Flight was delayed due to a mechanical issue as well as poor visibility at the local destination.  Long story short, we were narrowly close to landing in Aspen but diverted to Grand Junction and as a result, our journey took 6+ hours longer than expected.  Tired, hungry but happy to have made it safely.

Aspen village looking incredibly quaint and magical. :) What's those 3 green dots up there…?

Yay for family photo with the official snowman in Aspen. He's so cool, his arms light up at night. :D

Chilling our VC outside to natural icy perfection :)

Long exposure of the starry starry nights.. paint your palette blue and grey.

Celebrating our One year paper anniversary <3 Putting my Santa hat to good use in these photos.

Love watching things turn golden brown in the oven ever since I was a kid..  I think thats why I've always enjoyed crispy things..

Christmas eve dinner at home with roasted chicken which has been brining for eight hours, homemade stuffing, candied sweet potato, salad & saffron rice.

Oh my gosh Pillsbury Cinnabon flakey supreme cinnamon rolls!!  After years of craving these warm gooey buns, I finally reunited my teenage/childhood memory. We used to buy Cinnabon's mini pack of six at Metrotown with the special request for less icing and warm them up for breakfast in the morning.  And if you're observant, you can see our ice cream bucket in family size. We're so used to the individually sized portions in Asia, makes us get oogggly eyes.@_@

Trying out new Surefoot booties! Love them and can't wait for next season ;)

Our annual tradition, walking to the Pine Creek Cookhouse for lunch.  Last year we did snow shoeing but this time we skipped the hassle and just wore our regular boots and it takes about 20 minutes to get there from the road.

You can reach the restaurant which is pretty much located inside a large log cabin with a horse drawn carriage but walking is really relaxing especially on a beautiful day like this.

The Colorado elk bratwurst and trout was really nice but too bad they don't seem to change their menu very much.  Nevertheless I think this place is a must visit if you're stopping by Aspen.

Warm bread and butter pudding made with pretzel buns.  Whenever we go on vacation, an abundance of bread always seems to be our ultimate indulgence at the start (or end) of every meal.

Used to have a thing for cute yellow ducks but lately it's rabbits/bunnies. Must be after using Line chat group.

Aspen is a really memorable place and we were lucky to get so much powder early on in the season.  Unfortunately on the last day of skiing J had a small accident as we were scrambling to catch the shuttle  after a morning on the slopes. He didn't have his gloves on and the sharp blades cut really deep near the palm right below his thumb.  For a moment as we were trying to find the medic, I swear I was this close to fainting. Every pore on my face felt like there was a droplet of sweat, it got really hot and I felt like I couldn't breath.  The lady that was helping us asked me if I wanted any water and I remembered saying to myself hang in there Peggy, the injured one is J - don't make the situation even more complicated than it already is.  So we went to the ER and a few hours + stitches later he was released and everyone was relieved to know that he was lucky that this happened on the last day and to have such good hand orthopedic doctors on site.   The nurses call it the Colorado shark bite. :P  One thing to remember, always wear a glove and be careful when playing any form of sport. Anyways during the first week I tried to support J as much as possible and it reminds me of the time when he had to take care of me in Beijing after my surgery.  Always in health and sickness <3

Photos taken with J's Alpha 7 and my DSC-RX100. =)
